The Abbey 180 Brethren once again step out on their Annual September walk to Carrickfergus. Money raised this year will be split on a 50 / 50 basis between the Northern Ireland Hospice, in memory of the Lodges Treasurer, W.Bro. Tommy Chambers and the 150th Anniversary fund.

On reaching Carrickfergus, they retired to Wetherspoons for the traditional Ulster Fry and finally ending up in the Local Bowling Club for some liquid refreshment.

Abbey 180  2015 Sponsored Walk

Saturday 19th September saw a good turn out for our 9.5 kilometre walk from the Whiteabbey Masonic Centre to Carrickfergus. This year as similar to last year, our donations were to be split 50/50 between the lodge and the Northern Ireland Hospice.

Fully supported by VWB Bobby Spiers and WB Frank McNeice they gave us our Churchillian pep talk before they waved us on our merry way. A warm balmy day greeted the walkers as we spent a leisurely 1 hour 35 minutes walking along the mouth of Belfast Lough. Leaving no one behind us we could see Carrick in the distance drawing us like a moth to a lightbulb.

Arriving just after midday we made our way to Wetherspoon’s for a well-deserved pint and a fry. The craic was immense and all were looking forward until next year.

Abbey 180  2014 Sponsored Walk

Saturday 20th September saw Abbey 180's sponsored Walk from Whiteabbey Masonic Centre to Carrickfergus Masonic Hall.  Bro Colligan and his good lady ran the route which totalled a distance of 9.5K whilst those of a more laid back disposition walked it in a time of 1 hour 39 minutes.

The walk was in conjunction with W.Bro John Mcilwaine’s NI Hospice Appeal, which was in memory of his father in-law, W.Bro Tommy Chambers.  W.Bro Chambers was a leading member of  Lodge 180, who held the Office of Treasurer for 12 years and was presented with his 50 year jewel by R.W. Bro Bill Dyer in 2009.

The donations were split on a 50 / 50 basis between the Hospice and the Abbey 180 Lodges 150th Anniversary fund.

The day was enjoyed by all participants who would like to thank everyone for their donations and to Carrickfergus Bowling Club who allowed us to rest our weary legs
